32 Week Belly! (4/19)

At this point in the pregnancy...
I feel  a bit uncomfortable. I can't say that I'm tired of being pregnant (at least not yet), however, I can't really chill on the couch the way I used to because getting out of the couch sucks the balls...I feel my back is on fire when I try to stand and then I walk a few steps like an old man would with a walker...pretty pathetic lol. During CST testing at school I thought I could handle carrying my box-o-tests to my room...I actually did..day one...and I paid for it at home. My back was IN PAIN!! yea...um..not gonna do THAT again! So I rolled my box on a rolly chair back and forth. I just feel useless not being able to do my own shit. I guess I'm still having a hard time embracing pregnancy and its perks? lol Needless to say, day two of testing I had many caring co-workers who offered to take my box for me...that was nice :) The heartburn comes and goes and the hunger just comes...and comes. Sleeping has also sucked badly. Lots of tossing and turning followed by it's too hot then it's too cold then needing to go pee like 5 million times then tossing and turning some more...like I said...really sucking. And don't get me started on coughing and sneezing and blowing my nose...

As far as food goes...
I am favoring  foods that make me have a full belly and not give me heartburn. It's fine when the food is going in and I'm chomp chomping...but after the swallowing and many minutes later...HEARTBURN. Doing the ginger candies, doing the milkshakes (side note-I pay the price for drinking these...I'm lactose intolerant), doing the tums but  I really don't want to do the pills...I'm trying to hold off as much as possible on that. I have a hard enough time taking my prenatal (I gag every time I take it...seriously). Pills you say? Thanks, but I'll have to pass lol

Other thoughts running through my head...
I am uneasy about labor pains and how bad it's REALLY going to be. I know it's pretty early to be thinking about it but it's still in the back of my mind. We will be attending the baby classes on the 28th of this month. I hope we get some good info. I guess I also have to start thinking about my birth plan and whether I want pain meds or not. Lots to think about!!

I am excited about being able to still fit into my jeans...yes MY jeans. Let's see if this is the case next month though...lol.  Some of my t-shirts however, have been put on the "out of commission" list until further notice...lol

30 Week Belly! (4/5)

Who's got a pregnant belly? I do! I do! lol Wow! Where did THAT come from! I have caught myself doing mini waddles and it cracks me up!  Baby has been tearing up my belly...not like literally like a scene from alien (which I still think about and it freaks me the hell out) but she is moving and swirling and punching and kicking and God know's what else in there! It's like non-stop!

At this point in the pregnancy...
I feel hungry and tired...and FAT...but only in the belly area. I'm not getting good sleep, not because I don't want to sleep but it is so draining to turn over in bed to switch sides! Not to mention needing to get up like at 2 almost every night to go pee...I'm on a freaking schedule it seems! I guess I'm gonna need that in a few months I suppose lol.  My ass is getting numb sooner so I can't sit for a long time. Even though I'm like super hungry I can't eat all that much because everything inside me is getting squished by the ever-growing uterus.  My back is hurting more and more. Heartburn is still hanging around.

As far as food goes...
I am favoring strawberries with sour cream. I know...for some of you out there that sounds so gross but it tastes so good to me! I have also been craving the occasional Kit Kat or Twix bar.

Other thoughts running through my head...
I am uneasy about the end of the school year, packing up my classroom and maternity leave and sub plans (don't know if I'm gonna work til the end yet.  Playing it by ear) and having to take that extra course to finally get my single subject credential...but enough about work lol. I'm worried about not being able to breastfeed or not having enough milk for the little one. Boobs haven't really gone XL so it's kinda in the back of my mind.

I am excited about baby shower next month! Can't wait to see all of the chicas!

Glucose Test (3/29/12)

A little background on what the Glucose Test is...from www.babycenter.com...

When you arrive for the test, you'll be given a sugar solution that contains 50 grams of glucose. The stuff tastes like a very sweet soda pop (it comes in cola, orange, or lime flavor), and you have to get all of it down in five minutes. Some centers keep it chilled or let you pour it over ice and drink it cold.
An hour later, your practitioner or a technician will take a blood sample from your arm to check your blood sugar level. The idea is to see how efficiently your body processes sugar. The results should be available in a few days.
If the reading is too high, which happens 15 to 23 percent of the time, your practitioner will have you come back for a three-hour glucose tolerance test to see whether you really do have gestational diabetes. The good news is that most women whose screening test shows elevated blood sugar don't turn out to have gestational diabetes.

So Thursday morning I drank the orange liquid and an hour later got my blood drawn. Then had an appointment with the nurse practitioner and called it a day!  Little did I know what would happen the next day...

I got call from doc friday just as I was getting home.  They let me know that I did not pass my glucose test ( you had to get <130...I got a 131... >. >) and had to come back in for the three-hour  GTT or Glucose Tolerance Test. Luckily I had Spring break coming up so I told them I'd be in on Monday (4/2).

I guess I was really bummed after I got that call because I have been staying away from candy and processed stuff (like pastries and shit that's not good for me) and have been sticking to fruits to get my sugar kick...I guess either way you're screwed...at least this is how I was feeling...

A little background on what the Glucose Tolerance Test is...from www.babycenter.com...

When you arrive for the test, the technician will take a blood sample to measure your fasting blood glucose level and then ask you to drink either a more concentrated dose or a larger volume of the glucose solution. Then brace yourself for three more arm pricks, as your blood is tested every hour for the next three hours. The technician should alternate arms each time your blood is drawn. You'll definitely need something to distract you this time, because you'll have to stay seated in the waiting room when you're not getting your blood drawn. And bring something to eat right after your final blood sample is taken because you'll probably be starving. If one of the readings is abnormal, you may have to take another test later in your pregnancy. Or your practitioner may ask you to make some changes in your diet and exercise routine. If two or more of your readings are abnormal, you'll be diagnosed with gestational diabetes and you'll need to talk to your practitioner about a treatment plan. This chart shows the levels that the American Diabetes Association considers abnormal at each interval of the test:

IntervalAbnormal reading
Fasting95 mg/dl or higher
1 hour180 mg/dl or higher
2 hours155 mg/dl or higher
3 hours140 mg/dl or higher

So, now that you've read what I had to do, these were my results...

Woot! No Gestational Diabetes for me!

28 week Belly! (3/22)

It's starting to feel more and more real...can't hide the belly anymore (not that I was trying to lol) but it is definitely there and noticeable. Her movements are getting stronger...Glad she is healthy (I've read a baby that moves lots is sign of a healthy one!)

At this point in the pregnancy...
I feel like a hungry hippo!! Also, a little more tired than usual. I'm starting to realize how the baby is affecting my body at different places. For example, I just noticed recently that when I'm sitting for more than 15 minutes my left butt cheek starts to get numb and tingly...she only weighs like a little over two pounds! It's also getting a little difficult to get off the couch. Back is starting to hurt some. I feel like an old ass woman! lol

As far as food goes...
I am favoring FRUIT! any type I can get my hands on! Cantaloupe, strawberries, bananas, kiwis, apples, grapes, mangoes! And LOTS of them!

Other thoughts running through my head...
I am uneasy about the results of glucose test I have on 3/29. Will keep you posted.

I am excited about SPRING BREAK! I can't wait to do a whole lot of nothing and start on baby shower preparations with Mad. Gonna be lots of fun! We also have Renaissance Faire coming up too! Let's see how that turns out!

24 week Belly! (2/23)

Belly is growing. Baby is moving. Appetite is increasing ever so slightly...wait...that might be an understatement...

At this point in the pregnancy...
I feel hungry! And the heartburn seems to never want to go away. Everything I eat seems to give me heartburn. It's not just cinnamon or orange juice! It's chicken, rice, burgers, apples, strawberries...practically everything that enters my mouth to get digested (don't be dirty minded now...lol)

As far as food goes...
I am favoring apples still! Man I just can't seem to have enough of them! I've also been having milkshakes (from Jack n the Box...strawberry..i know, not the healthiest) to keep the heartburn at bay. It works while I'm drinking it..and then like ten minutes after it's all gone the heartburn comes back...I guess I just gotta have more milkshakes! lol

Other thoughts running through my head...
I am uneasy about my next appointment. It's the glucose test appointment where I have to drink some orange soda-like liquid and then get my blood drawn to see if I'm at risk for gestational diabetes. So I'm a bit worried about it because both dad and mom have diabetes. I hope everything works out fine.

I am excited about baby shower ideas!  Pinterest is a great place to lose yourself. Have you tried it? It's ridiculous! So many awesome things and so many ideas!

20 week Belly! (1/26)

Not much excitement besides her moving a grip. Ed finally got to "feel" her movements. Feels very weird having a little human moving about in my belly...very alien-like lol. This is the month's breakdown...

At this point in the pregnancy...
I feel so much heartburn!!! And slowly but surely I am finding the culprits! #1 heartburn starter...CINNAMON!  #2...ORANGE JUICE!

As far as food goes...
I am favoring fried bananas with sour cream, burgers, mustard noodles and fuji apples. It seems we can't be without apples around the house.

Other thoughts running through my head...
I am uneasy about whether I'll be a good mom. Am I going to be able to juggle work and family? Will I be less dedicated to work? Am I going to start half assing it at work? Am I going to be a pushover? Too Strict? so many questions!!! I know that some of these things are irrational feelings but I still have them...

I am excited about what she looks like. Well duh, she will look human but I'm talking about what characteristics she is going to have, not that you can tell for sure when they are born. With all this heartburn I'm wondering if she IS going to be a hairy baby lol.
