Boy or Girl?

So, since we found out I was pregnant there have been many conversations as to what we would want baby #2 to be; a boy or girl. For starters, one of the first things Ed said about gender was, "I hope it's not a boy because I don't really want to clean shitty balls..." and also, he said if we found out we were having a second he'd have naming rights if it was a girl. Granted, his choice of boy name three years ago did not sit well with me at the beginning but as the years went by I was OK with the boy name (luckily it turned out to be a girl and we both agreed on Lily lol). This time around though, the girl name he has chosen has not sat well with me and I keep on throwing out other girl names to get him to change his mind but to no avail. We've discussed some points that have us favoring a girl as well as a boy but ultimately, as long as the kid comes out healthy we really don't have a preference on either gender. It would be nice if it's a girl because we have lily's old clothes and all her toys so we wouldn't be buying much but if it's a boy it'll be a new adventure.

Our appointment was Nov. 11 and got the news on the gender. Here's the picture we have been waiting for...

It's a boy! Now to search for boy names...

Ding!! We've leveled up...AGAIN!!

Well, shortly after Lily (June 11) and Ed's birthday (July 6), I found out I was pregnant...again! I'm not going to say it was unexpected, since we had talks about adding to our family for quite some time. However, we were not expecting it to be so soon!!! And this time, I just peed on a cheap stick and the results were immediate!!! We were hoping to get knocked up like in September or somewhere close to that so that I'd be out in the summer again but I guess it had to be earlier. So, since this is not my first rodeo, I am not going to do the full on play-by-play I did with Lily, but I will post about the major checkpoints in this pregnancy.

First trimester has come and gone (until Sept 25) and it was very similar to being pregnant with Lily. Nausea, lack of appetite, sour taste in my mouth constantly and hugging the white throne between the hours of 4-7 pm every day. Eating mostly fried foods like taquitos and french fries and fried chicken was a new development. Definitely not healthy food but something that kept the nausea at bay for just a bit. My go-to fruit this time was peaches but now that peach season is over, canned peaches will do.

Second trimester began Sept 26. The nausea began to subside slowly but it's been replaced with a constant feeling of bloatedness. When going through belly pics from Lily pregnancy, I definitely look larger bellywise than the corresponding belly pic with her. Crazy! Now because I'm 35 and my eggs are a bit on the "mature" side, I had to see a genetics counselor and we decided to do the amniocentesis to make sure baby #2 didn't have any genetic defects. Our appt was October 14th and because it was during the day I went by myself.  After it was all said and done the whole procedure was less "traumatic" than the diagram the genetics counselor showed me the week prior to the appt. Yes it was a bit uncomfortable but I didn't leave the appt in mega pain and tears. So if I had to do it again to give me piece of mind on the genetic make up of another baby, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

This is baby #2 at week 16. Yea, I know, all babies look the same on these darn ultrasound pics lol. Glad it wasn't flipping us off but it was real cool to see its fingers move! lol

So now we are at week 18 and our next appt is on Veteran's Day (Nov 11) for our next ultrasound with the Amnio doctor to discuss the results further and see what we are having. We already got a call with the amnio results and everything came back normal so we are super relieved and trekking on!

Thanks for tuning in!

Happy 2nd Birthday Lily!

Lily is finally 2!!! This year we kept it low-key since two is kind of an awkward age--they know what's going on but they don't at the same time. Lily hasn't shown signs of having a favorite thing so we settled on getting some pizza and a Nemo cake. She got to spend some time with Her uncle Pato and aunty Rozy with Aubrey and Aaryn. Ensley, Lily's bestie, was unable to come. Hopefully they can spend some time together next year for Lily's third birthday.

In a nutshell, Lily...

  • We started the crib-to-toddler bed conversion. We changed the doorknob to the latch ones she can open herself just in case she wakes up and wants to go to our room. We also got that kid gate too so she doesn't wander into the living room at night. Well, she woke up an hour after being put down, in a crying fit. This didn't work so we got her a full-sized bed and now she sleeps there. The catch though is that one of us has to lay down with her to go to sleep and during the night she wakes up walks to our room and tries to climb on our bed. During the work week Ed will take her back to her bed and he'll lie down with her in case she wakes up again.
  • More phrases when talking but still a lot of lergah lergah in between
  • Practicing her jumping more
  • Got started on pee pee in the potty but we're not being consistent
  • LOVES soup!!!

18 months

In a nutshell, Lily...

  • I didn't believe it when I read it in the baby bulletins about kids having this huge vocabulary explosion at 18 months but it really is true. New words: fish, airplane, balloon, thank you, climb, down, face, sun, tree, egg, pan (bread), corn, coin, train, block, car, boat, cat (can't distinguish between tiger panther cheetah yet), clock, star,  red, blue, purple, green, white, black, brown, pink, the numbers 1-10, and the alphabet (with some exceptions).  She can say the entire alphabet but there are a few letters she cannot identify by sight as easily.
  • Took her to the movies to watch "Frozen." Let's just say that I might wait til she's two to try it again...
